Injury management

Get back to work, sport and daily activities faster with expert injury management physiotherapy

Why Injury Management Matters for Work and Sport

Whether you’ve sustained an acute injury from trauma, a workplace accident, or a gradual onset injury from repetitive strain or sports activity, the way you manage your injury in the first few days and weeks significantly impacts your recovery timeline, your ability to return to work or sport safely, and your risk of re-injury.

We understand that injuries don’t just affect you physically – they impact your livelihood, your fitness goals, your confidence, and your quality of life. This is why we take a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to injury management that focuses not just on reducing pain, but on restoring your function, preventing recurrence, and helping you safely return to the activities and work you love.

Whether you’ve suffered a workplace injury, sports injury, motor vehicle accident injury, or accidental trauma, our team has the expertise to guide you through every stage of recovery.

Our Approach To Injury Management

Our injury management philosophy is built on three core principles:

Restore Function – Not just reduce pain, but get you moving well

Prevent Recurrence – Addressing the root causes and risk factors

Safe Return to Activity – Gradual, evidence-based progression back to work, sport, and daily activities

Taping & Bracing

Muscle taping is one of our most effective and immediate injury management tools. Unlike rigid strapping, therapeutic muscle taping is designed to:

  • Provide your body with support
  • Reduce pain and swelling
  • Facilitate normal movement
  • Support weak or injured structures
  • Guide muscle activation

Our taping approach is customised to your specific injury and activity level. We use high-quality athletic tape and teach you self-taping techniques so you can maintain support between sessions and during your return to activity.

Bracing may also be recommended for certain injuries to provide additional joint protection and stability during early recovery phases.

Manual Therapy and Joint Mobilisation

Manual therapy is hands-on treatment performed by our physiotherapists to:

  • Release muscle tension and tightness
  • Mobilise restricted joints
  • Reduce pain
  • Improve circulation
  • Restore movement patterns

Manual therapy is particularly effective in the early phases of injury recovery when patients are guarding against pain and movement is restricted.

Soft Tissue Massage and Trigger Point Release

Injured muscles often develop tight, tender spots called trigger points. These areas of sustained muscle contraction that restrict movement and perpetuate pain. Our massage and trigger point techniques:

  • Release muscle tension
  • Reduce referred pain patterns
  • Improve muscle flexibility
  • Promote relaxation
  • Accelerate healing

Dry Needling

Where clinically appropriate, dry needling can provide rapid pain relief and muscle relaxation. Dry needling involves inserting a fine needle into trigger points in muscle tissue, assisting to:

  • Deactivate trigger points in sustained muscle contractions
  • Reduce muscle tension
  • Stimulate healing
  • Improve movement
  • Provide pain relief

Dry needling is used only when clinically appropriate and with your consent. It’s particularly valuable for persistent muscle tension that hasn’t responded adequately to other techniques.
